The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

A book by Frank Baum

I was familiar with the story but I don't think I ever read the book in its entirety. First of all, I didn't know there were more volumes to explore this universe. This was a fun surprise! That said, the book was fascinating to read. It almost has a rhythm to it which made it quite an enjoyable experience. I loved the creativity that went into the story and, to an extent, I see some good examples of leadership.

Dorothy put together a loyal following with kindness first. And while this is meant to be a feel-good story, it resonates with me as the type of leader I strive to be. She also shows respect towards any new encounter and world she enters. On the other side of the spectrum, you see the Wicked Witch of the East and West. They lead with fear and lose loyalty from their group as soon as possible.

Besides the many parallels you can make with leadership and the power of influence, it was a good read. It left me wanting to learn more, the simple writing made it a breeze to go through the story. If you've never read this, you should give it a try at least once in your lifetime. I can't wait to narrate it to my little one!
