The Way of Kings
A book by Brandon Sanderson
I have so much faith in Sanderson's storytelling that even before I started reading this book I was overly excited. I loved Mistborn so much that I was expecting a certain similarity in how the story was told. By the time you finish it, you don't have as much closure but it opens up so much that you're forced to continue with the second book of the saga. I'm a fan of getting lost in finer details, as Sanderson got me used to, but I don't feel like that happened as much here. It's very dense in information about this world but not as much in giving you answers.
It is enough to keep you hooked. I appreciated that the whole book takes place in very few locations so I didn't have to jump around mentally as much. Most relevant characters are somewhat "close" to one another so it makes it easier to follow.
All that said, there's so much to explore and discover! I know the author will provide all the answers so I'm ready for it. If you're a fan of Sanderson's you know you'll like this, but keep in mind that this is the opening of the Stormlight Archive so there's a lot more to it. It's a lot easier to sell if you read anything from him before, either way, pick it up if you get a chance.
I gave it only a 4 because I don't have enough to feel satisfied about closing the loop (or many of the loops). It has a lot of potential, I have to see this through to understand if the setup is well done or not. Given the reputation of this series, I have a feeling it only gets better but I want to develop my own opinion.
